Milling tradition, art installations, and evening concert at one of Brandenburg's oldest watermills
The Historic Mönchmühle Mill in Mühlenbeck is one of the oldest preserved watermills in Brandenburg. The complex on the Tegeler Fließ was founded in the Middle Ages by Cistercian monks and operated until the 20th century. Today, the Mönchmühle is a cultural and museum site that understands milling tradition, craftsmanship, and community as its core values. In the Mühlenbecker Land — a large municipality with the districts of Mühlenbeck, Schildow, Schönfließ, and Zühlsdorf, located in the Oberhavel district just north of Berlin — it serves as an anchor of identity.
The Pfingstmühlenfest is the most important event day in the Mönchmühle's annual program. From 11 AM to 7 PM, the mill, the mill shop, and the courtyard open their gates to visitors from Berlin, Oberhavel, and the entire state of Brandenburg. Mill tours explain the historical technology of water power utilization, mill bakers demonstrate bread and flour production, and seasonal art installations and a children's program await visitors on the mill grounds — a combination of tradition and contemporary art that is typical for the Mönchmühle.
From 7:30 PM, the focus shifts to the historic hall: "Die Zöllner im Trio Infernale" perform in an acoustic trio setting. The Berlin band, led by Dirk Zöllner, has been a fixture in the East German pop-rock genre since the 1980s. Advance tickets: €15, possibly more at the door.
The Mönchmühle is easily accessible from Berlin via the S-Bahn S1 (final stop Mühlenbeck-Mönchmühle) and by car. The Pfingstmühlenfest is part of the German Mill Day, which takes place nationwide on Whit Monday — the Mönchmühle is one of the outstanding Brandenburg stations of this event.
