Christmas market with arts and crafts, free shuttle, and atmospheric stations throughout Visselhövede's city center
The Visselhöveder Advent opts for a special concept: instead of a single large marketplace, the stalls and activities are spread across several stations in Visselhövede's city center. Visitors walk from the market square through the pedestrian zone to the church, discovering different focal points: arts and crafts here, snacks there, children's activities further on. This creates a lively city stroll in the glow of the lights.
To ensure that visitors with limited mobility can also experience all the stations, the town offers a free shuttle service between the market locations. Seniors, families with strollers, and people with disabilities benefit from this and can enjoy the market offerings regardless of their physical condition.
The centerpiece is the arts and crafts market organized by the Kultur- und Heimatverein Visselhövede (Cultural and Heritage Association). Woodwork, felt products, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, natural cosmetics, candles, and Christmas decorations are offered by regional craftspeople. The stalls represent authentic, individual gifts away from industrial mass production.
At various points in the town, restaurateurs, associations, and showmen's stalls offer mulled wine, punch, cocoa, bratwurst, potato pancakes, crêpes, potato fritters, candied almonds, and sweets. The culinary diversity matches the decentralized concept of the market.
Concerts by the church choir, Advent carol singing, craft activities for children, visits from St. Nicholas, and readings shape the program. Schools and kindergartens contribute to parts of the stage program. The festive lighting of the historic city center in the evenings makes the Visselhöveder Advent an atmospheric Advent experience.
From Saturday morning to Sunday evening, the market will shape the city center. The distribution across multiple stations creates a strolling experience in the glow of the lights.
Craft activities, a visit from St. Nicholas, concerts, and readings are part of the program. Kindergartens and schools contribute with performances.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Kultur- und Heimatverein in the autumn. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years.
