Spring festival on Mühlenbeck village square on April 25, 2026 — fourth edition
Mühlenbeck in Mühlenbecker Land — a municipality in the Oberhavel district, just under 10 km north of the Berlin city limits — maintains a comparatively young festival tradition: the Cherry Blossom Festival. First celebrated in 2023, it has developed into a popular spring meeting point for the village community in just three years. The fourth edition on April 25, 2026, marks the point at which the festival becomes a permanent fixture in the event calendar — the municipality plans it every year from now on, on the last Saturday in April.
The venue is the village square of Mühlenbeck, located between the historic village church and the fire station. The spacious square, lined with trees and cherry trees that are in full bloom at the end of April, provides the ideal backdrop for a spring festival. When the weather cooperates, when the pink cloud of blossoms hovers over the square and the afternoon sun warms the air, Mühlenbeck transforms into the postcard cliché of a German spring village.
The program is deliberately family-oriented. A bouncy castle for the little ones, a craft station run by the local youth club, and face painting make the festival particularly attractive for families with children up to 10 years old. Older children can practice archery — an activity that has regained popularity in recent years and is conducted safely under the guidance of experienced archers. For parents and grandparents, there is coffee and homemade cake from the women's club, a barbecue stand with sausages and steaks, and a goulash cannon with hot soup — perfect in case April is still cool.
A small stage provides musical accompaniment. Local musicians — from the Mühlenbeck brass band to singer-songwriters from the region — play alternately during the festival. It's not a staged professional performance, but rather a club and village setting that keeps the atmosphere familial. Those who want to spend the day relaxing can bring a blanket and sit under the cherry trees.
Mühlenbecker Land, a municipality formed in 2003 from several villages in the Oberhavel district, is part of Berlin's so-called “Speckgürtel” (suburban belt) — the Brandenburg municipalities in the immediate vicinity of Berlin that have grown significantly in the last twenty years. Mühlenbeck itself, the namesake district, is the largest with just under 4,000 inhabitants and has largely retained its historic village character. The 13th-century village church (brick building in transitional style) and the adjacent village square form the historic center.
Mühlenbecker Land can be reached by S-Bahn from Berlin via line S 1 to Frohnau (terminus), then by bus 806 to Mühlenbeck (about 40 minutes in total). By car, take the A 10 (Mühlenbeck exit) or the B 96 north. Parking is available in the village. Tip: Those who want to combine the festival visit with a walk can explore the Mühlenbecker Heide or cycle to the nearby Lübarser Vorberg.
