Cozy village festival at the Backhausplatz in Zabergäu
The Village Festival in Weiler is one of the most beautiful village festivals in the Zabergäu — the wine-rich hilly landscape in the west of the Heilbronn district (state of Baden-Württemberg). Organized by the Dorffestverein Weiler e.V., the festival takes place on the second weekend of July on the Backhausplatz in the center of the small Pfaffenhofen district — in its 9th edition in 2026.
The Backhausplatz with its historic bakehouse is the heart of the village of Weiler and forms the picturesque backdrop for the festival. Around the square, which owes its name to the old communal oven, catering stands, a small stage, and seating areas under trees and pavilions are set up during the festival weekend. The intimate atmosphere — no huge festival tent, but tables and benches directly at the bakehouse — creates the typical village conviviality that characterizes Zabergäu village festivals.
The local clubs cater to guests with classic Swabian specialties — Maultaschen, Bratwurst, grilled steaks, potato salad, homemade goods from the bakehouse. Paired with Zabergäuer wines from the surrounding vineyards around Stromberg and Heuchelberg, as well as regional beer. The village women provide coffee and cake in the afternoon with homemade cakes — a true taste of home.
Weiler is a small district of the municipality of Pfaffenhofen (around 2,500 inhabitants in total) in the western Heilbronn district. Nestled between vineyards and the hills of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, the district preserves its village identity — half-timbered houses, the bakehouse, the church, and the community spirit of the clubs shape the image. Those who want to experience Zabergäu beyond the main tourist routes will find a warm encounter with rural Württemberg here.
On the weekend of July 11th and 12th, 2026, the Dorffestverein Weiler e.V. will transform the charming Backhausplatz in Pfaffenhofen-Weiler into a lively festival ground. On Saturday afternoon, the festival opens with catering by local clubs — Bratwurst, Maultaschen, Swabian specialties, and Zabergäuer wines accompany the festival's start. In the evening, live bands or regional music clubs will provide the atmosphere, and the spark will catch on. On Sunday, a cozy Frühshoppen with lunch, coffee, and homemade cake in the afternoon, and a convivial closing follow.
You can reach Pfaffenhofen-Weiler from Heilbronn via the L1103 and L1106 in about 25 minutes by car. By public transport from Heilbronn HBF with the S4 suburban train to Güglingen and then by bus. Parking available around the town center.
Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th, 2026. Catering starts in the afternoon, live program on Saturday evening and Sunday.
Free admission.
Combine your visit to the festival with a hike or wine tasting in the Zabergäuer vineyards around Stromberg and Heuchelberg.
