Süsel — Festival Culture in the Ostholstein Hinterland

Süsel is a municipality in the Ostholstein district (state of Schleswig-Holstein), near the Baltic Sea resorts of Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand, but located in the hinterland. The municipality, with around 4,700 inhabitants, offers an unusual cultural contrast to the Baltic coast — not touristy, but village-like and with an active club landscape.

The Ehrensache Festival emerged from this club landscape. On the festival grounds An der Kirche — located between the Süsel church and the Kulturscheune — several bands find a small open-air stage every summer. The format is deliberately kept manageable: no mega-festival, but a concentrated summer concert night for lovers of alternative and handmade music.

Line-up 2026

Five bands will be on stage in 2026 — a carefully curated mix of punk, indie, rock, and ska-punk:

• Liedfett — Hamburg-based folk-punk singer-songwriters, one of the best-known acts in German-language songwriter-punk
• Rabauken und Trompeten — Ska-punk brass band from Schleswig-Holstein
• Die Baltigos — Pop-rock from the Baltic Sea region
• The Pinkies — Indie/Punk
• Nativo Music — Reggae and World Music

Festival Grounds with Character

The Süsel festival grounds are a sandy parking lot between the church and the Kulturscheune — an unusual, intimate festival setting. The organizer, the volunteer-run Ehrensache Festival e.V., organizes the festival with local helpers and clubs, without major sponsors or a commercial background.

Gastronomy and Extras

In addition to the stage acts, a crêperie, food trucks (Frittenglück, BBQ JIMS BAR), and stalls with creative crafts invite visitors to linger. Tickets are available via the festival website and Eventim.
