A Night for Science — Citywide
When a Saturday evening in June turns Berlin and Potsdam into a science night, thousands of Berliners enter research labs, university buildings, observatories, and institute foyers — many for the first time. The Long Night of Sciences was founded in 2001 and is now Germany's largest science festival. Around 60 scientific institutions open their doors between 5 PM and midnight — with over 2,000 experiments, lectures, science shows, and guided tours.
Adlershof — The Berlin Science Campus
The Adlershof Technology Park (WISTA) in the Adlershof district (Treptow-Köpenick borough) is one of Germany's most important science and business locations — with over 1,000 companies and research institutions spread across approximately 4.2 km². During the Long Night of Sciences, it becomes one of the festival's central hubs. Highlights in Adlershof:
- Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) — Synchrotron research at BESSY II, one of the world's best light sources for materials science
- Humboldt University — Faculty of Natural Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science
- Ferdinand Braun Institute for High Frequency Technology
- Fraunhofer Institutes (FOKUS, HHI, IZM)
- German Aerospace Center (DLR), Berlin site
- Zeiss Research Center and high-tech companies
What You Can Experience in One Evening

- Lectures on current research — understandable for non-scientists
- Lab Tours: BESSY II synchrotron, cleanrooms, microscopy labs
- Science Shows: spectacular live demonstrations for families
- Children's and Youth Programs: especially for young scientists
