Small church Christmas market around the historic Schwedenkirche in Berlin-Adlershof
The locality of Adlershof is located in the Treptow-Köpenick district, on the southeastern city border of Berlin. Adlershof is primarily known for its Science and Technology City, one of Europe's largest tech clusters (BESSY II, Fraunhofer Institute, Humboldt University Natural Sciences, hundreds of companies). However, the old Adlershof village center with its terraced houses, small cafés, and the idyllic Schwedenkirche has been preserved. This church — a wooden church whose name is reminiscent of the Swedish wooden church tradition — is an attraction for walkers and a venue for the Free Evangelical Congregation.
Every year on the 2nd Saturday of Advent, the Free Evangelical Congregation opens its Christmas market around the Schwedenkirche. The format is classic and manageable — a handful of stalls in the churchyard, homemade goods (knitted items, candles, baked goods, jams), handicrafts, fragrant waffles, and hearty bratwurst. Mulled wine and punch provide warmth, a fairy tale tent reads to children, and a craft station invites participation. The market also serves as a meeting place for the congregation — pastors, confirmands, and volunteers work behind the stalls.
Unlike the large tourist Christmas markets in Mitte or Charlottenburg, the Christmas market at the Schwedenkirche is a genuine neighborhood event. Those from Adlershof, Köpenick, or Niederschöneweide recognize their neighbors, the atmosphere is cozy, and the crowds are moderate. Visitors from outside get to know a Berlin district that, beyond its tech city aspect, has a quiet, village-like side — and can combine the market with a walk in the nearby Adlershofer Forest or a visit to the Science City.
The Treptow-Köpenick district boasts a special Advent landscape: from the Bolschefest in Friedrichshagen to the Christmas market in Hanff's Ruh (Grünau) and the large Christmas market in Köpenick's old town, the mix of forest, water, and village character is typical. The market at the Schwedenkirche fits into this series — small, personal, and locally rooted.
As in previous years, the Free Evangelical Congregation Berlin-Adlershof plans its 2026 Christmas market for the 2nd Saturday of Advent. Expected date: December 5, 2026. Final confirmation will be provided in late autumn on the congregation's website. The format remains classic and manageable — the churchyard around the idyllic wooden church will host a small number of stalls where congregants sell homemade goods, handicrafts, baked goods, and jams. Bratwurst, mulled wine, punch, and waffles will warm visitors. Children will be read to in the fairy tale tent, and crafts will be available at the craft station.
The official date confirmation and the exact program for 2026 will be published in late autumn 2026 on feg-adlershof.de/aktuelles/kalender.
Keep an eye on the congregation's website and the Berlin Christmas market directory at weihnachtsmaerkte-in-deutschland.de starting November 2026.
S-Bahn S8, S9, S45, S46 Adlershof (10 min. walk). Tram 60, 61 Karl-Ziegler-Straße. Bus 162 or 164 Handjerystraße. Parking in residential streets is limited.
