Six-week open-air concert series at the Citadel, Volkspark, and KUZ with a top-class international lineup
Summer in the City is the umbrella concert brand with which mainzplus Citymarketing GmbH programs the main open-air summer events in Mainz. Over six weeks, a series of around ten to twelve major concerts takes place at three venues. Unlike traditional festivals, each concert is a standalone event with its own ticketing – the brand acts as a framework and marketing umbrella.
The venues are carefully selected. The Mainz Citadel on Jakobsberg, a baroque fortress complex with views over the city, serves as the main stage for larger concerts. The Volkspark Mainz offers a greener, more family-friendly atmosphere for selected highlights. The KUZ — Kulturzentrum Mainz is reserved for more intimate performances. This three-part division allows for an exciting mix of urban, park, and indie character.
The 2026 program is exceptionally dense and diverse. Confirmed acts include Element of Crime (June 6, KUZ), Deine Freunde (June 12), GUUDE! — its own regional festival on June 13 — Foreigner (June 14, the US rock band with their hits from the 1970s and 1980s), No Angels with their 25th-anniversary concert (June 18), British soul singer Joss Stone (June 20), Natasha Bedingfield (June 23), the electronic festival High Root Open Air with Milk & Sugar and The Disco Boys (June 26), US alternative icons Garbage (June 27), and concluding with German pop singer Nina Chuba in Volkspark (July 16).
With this program depth, Summer in the City offers a nearly continuous concert experience for the Mainz audience from early June to mid-July. Tickets start at €29.90 for the smaller formats; headliner tickets range from around €50 to €80, depending on the act.
The 2026 edition bundles around ten confirmed main concerts over six weeks. The program chain was published from the outset, allowing for early ticket booking. The venue for each concert depends on the scale and musical atmosphere of the act. Tickets are sold through the festival website and the Reservix platform.
The individual concert evenings typically begin with doors opening in the evening, a support act, the main concert, and a late-night atmosphere at the fortress or in the park. On-site catering, regional breweries, and a curated selection of food trucks are standard.
