187th Fastnachtszug in Frankfurt-Heddernheim – Frankfurt's oldest Fastnachtszug
"Klaa Paris" – Hessian for Little Paris – has been the nickname of the Frankfurt district of Heddernheim since the 19th century. The nickname likely originated from the irrepressible zest for life of the local population. Today, the name primarily stands for a tradition: since 1839, Frankfurt's oldest and most traditional Fastnacht parade has taken place here – continuously, with only war-related interruptions.
The story begins with two travelling journeymen who returned from the Mainz Carnival and came up with the idea of celebrating the same in Heddernheim. The occasion was the inauguration of the new Gemaa-Bumb, the community pump. On Shrove Tuesday 1839, the first Fastnacht parade marched through Heddernheim – with a model of the new pump as the main attraction. The iconic Gemaa-Bumb model still participates in the parade every year.
Since 1951, the organization of the parade has been in the hands of the Zuggemeinschaft Klaa Paris e.V., an association of Heddernheim Fastnacht clubs. They not only organize the parade but also maintain the Carnival Museum in Heddernheim and publish the famous Zugheft (parade booklet) every year with its themed floats, clubs, and parade order.
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the 187th Klaa Pariser Fastnachtszug will start at 2:11 PM – the quintessential carnival start time. 111 parade numbers with around 1,500 participants from Heddernheim and affiliated Fastnacht clubs are planned. Over 100,000 visitors are expected along the parade route. The motto for 2026 is: "Klaa Paris sings and laughs – It remains the most beautiful Fassenacht".
The Frankfurt police will be present with a visible police information stand at H.-P-Müller-Platz. The access roads to Heddernheim will be closed to vehicle traffic from 4:00 AM and gradually reopened after the parade ends. Current information will also be available via the Frankfurt Police's social media channels (X: @polizei_ffm, Instagram, WhatsApp).
