A family-friendly neighbourhood festival in front of the Praunheimer Mühle
The Heddernheim & Praunheim District Festival unites two northwestern Frankfurt districts for a shared afternoon in the park. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 2 PM to 6 PM, families from both districts will gather on the Fritz-Lennig-Anlage in front of the Praunheimer Mühle.
The organisers are the Left Party factions of local district councils 7 (Heddernheim) and 8 (Praunheim), as well as the Left Party's district groups from both areas. The festival is explicitly designed as an opportunity for residents and local politicians to meet: "Babbeln mit den Ortsbeiräten" – Frankfurt dialect for "talking with the district politicians" – is a fixed part of the programme.
The highlight for families is the Zarakali Children's Circus: a participatory activity where children can try out acrobatics, juggling, and small tricks themselves. In addition, there will be performances by a youth dance group, face painting, and a bouncy castle.
Food and drinks will be sold at affordable prices, with popcorn for the children. The festival aims to be a meeting place "without large commercial stall operators" – clubs, initiatives, and volunteer engagement shape the event.
The Praunheimer Mühle is a historic water mill on the Westerbach stream in the Praunheim district. It is now a listed building. The surrounding Fritz-Lennig-Anlage is a small park area that offers ideal space for a district festival of this size.
Heddernheim and Praunheim are two northwestern Frankfurt districts, characterised by residential areas from the 1920s and 1950s, the Roman excavation site of Heddernheim (Nida), and the historic Praunheimer Mühle on the Westerbach. Both districts belong to local district councils 7 (Heddernheim) and 8 (Heddernheim-Süd / Praunheim) and are locally supported by their respective district councils.
Four hours of neighbourhood programme in the park in front of the historic Praunheimer Mühle. Families from Heddernheim and Praunheim meet, children romp in the hands-on circus, adults chat with the local district council members.
