District festival of the "jester district" Klaa Paris – in Alt-Heddernheim
Heddernheim is Frankfurt's jester district – home of the famous "Klaa Paris" Carnival (one of Germany's oldest district carnivals) and an unusually dense club culture. The Heddernheim Street Festival is the summer counterpart to the winter carnival: the district festival where the associations that appear in costume on stage in February can be found behind the bratwurst stands in June.
The festival is organized by the Vereinsring Heddernheim e.V. – the umbrella organization of the Heddernheim associations – which has maintained the tradition since 1992. 2022 saw the 30th edition. As with many Frankfurt district festivals, the mix is typical: carnival clubs (Club Fidele Nassauer 1931, Zuggemeinschaft Klaa Paris e.V.), sports clubs, church communities, schools – all set up stands and serve food and drinks.
The venue is old Heddernheim, the most compact quarter with half-timbered houses and small alleys, known as Alt-Heddernheim. The stage is located in the Von-Riedt-Anlage (formerly Stiftsgarten), a green square in the heart of the district. DJ Andy plays German pop, Schlager, and carnival hits from the stage.
Heddernheim is located in the northwest of Frankfurt, with dense U-Bahn connections to the city center. With around 17,000 inhabitants, it is a classic Frankfurt district with its own identity and a particularly strong club culture. The nickname "Klaa Paris" (Little Paris) dates back to the 19th century and has become firmly established, especially in carnival – Heddernheim has its own carnival parade, which is one of the largest in Frankfurt.
The street festival is very family-friendly. A mobile playground from Abenteuerspielplatz Riederwald e.V. offers children action in the afternoon. The association stands sell grilled food, fries, salads, beer, and wine – Frankfurt district festival fare in the best tradition. The Club Fidele Nassauer 1931 operates the "great food mile," and the Zuggemeinschaft Klaa Paris has its own stand.
