One of Frankfurt's most beautiful neighbourhood festivals
In Frankfurt's west, in the district of Rödelheim, one of the Main metropolis's most beautiful neighbourhood festivals takes place every May: Musik am Fluss, the Rödelheim Music Night. Since 2011, the district along the Nidda has transformed into an open music space for one Saturday – around 60 groups and choirs perform simultaneously at 17 venues, and the audience wanders from one performance to the next.
Genre Diversity as the Program
The musical spectrum is broad:
- Blues and Rock
- Folk and Singer-Songwriter
- Disco and Pop
- Choirs – Church choirs, men's choirs, mixed choirs
- Organ music in the churches
- Classical music in pavilions and small event halls
The mix is not accidental: the festival consciously works with genre diversity to appeal to the widest possible audience and engage all generations.
Free and Outdoors – With Donations
The festival is consistently “Free & Outdoors”: Free admission, no collection plate, no paid acts. The musicians perform without a fee, and the organizers work voluntarily. Nevertheless, costs arise – posters, sanitary facilities, technical equipment. These are covered by donations, either via the association's bank account or through the platform betterplace.org.
KIR – Kultur in Rödelheim
Since 2025, the association KIR – Kultur in Rödelheim e.V. has been the organizer, founded to place the festival on a stable legal footing. Before 2025, it was a loose initiative. The founding of the association marks the maturity of the format after more than a decade of existence.
Nidda as a Common Thread
The Nidda is Rödelheim's main river (a tributary of the Main, flowing into it near Höchst). It runs across the district, making the walks between the 17 venues scenically attractive: former mill paths, bridges, waterways, small park strips. Those who visit the festival walk along the water from one performance to the next.
Cancelled in Case of Bad Weather
A peculiarity of the festival: it is cancelled in case of bad weather. The concept only works outdoors – open-air, without an emergency indoor plan. Anyone in Rödelheim on Saturday should keep an eye on the weather.
