Tip
A genuine district Kerb without a big event feel – ideal for relaxed family afternoons and evenings. The atmosphere in the festival tent is cozy and communicative.
Kirchweih in West Frankfurt
The Sossenheimer Kerb is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of Frankfurt's western district of Sossenheim. In 2026, it will be held on October 3rd and 4th – over the weekend around German Unity Day – on the Sossenheimer Kerbeplatz. The organizer is the Vereinsring Frankfurt am Main – Sossenheim e.V., an association of local clubs promoting community life in the district.
A Tradition with Village Character
Sossenheim was incorporated into Frankfurt in 1928 but has largely retained its original village character. The Kerb – short for Kirchweih, the annual patron saint's day of the local church – is an expression of this village tradition in the heart of the big city of Frankfurt. It has been celebrated in the same way for generations: a festival tent on the Kerbeplatz, live music, and communal catering by the clubs.
Festival Weekend for Friends and Family
As the Vereinsring itself puts it, the Kerb is a weekend for “good spirits, delicious food, music, and a really great weekend” – a family festival where Sossenheim's clubs and neighbors meet. At the same time, all Frankfurt residents and visitors are welcome – the Kerb is open.
Sossenheim and Frankfurt's Club Life
The Sossenheim district is located in western Frankfurt, bordering Höchst and Eschborn. With around 16,000 inhabitants, Sossenheim is a rather small-scale, middle-class district with active club life. The Vereinsring bundles these initiatives and also organizes the parallel Sossenheim Open Air (SoOPA) in August – a larger music festival on the same Kerbeplatz.
Kerb Instead of Big Event
In contrast to SoOPA, which features Schlager and Mallorca stars, the Kerb is a quieter, more traditional event – the authentic club festival of the district, without a big stage, but with a genuine suburban atmosphere. If you want to get to know the unglamorous, cozy side of Frankfurt, this is the place to be.
