Arts and Crafts in the Asparagus Town
Beelitz, located southwest of Potsdam, is known nationwide for its asparagus and its historic sanatoriums. Once a year, however, the town turns its attention to a completely different discipline: arts and crafts. On the last weekend of July, the festival meadow by the Nieplitz river becomes a large open-air market for creative works from Berlin, Brandenburg, and the surrounding federal states.
July 25th and 26th, 2026 — The Program
The market takes place on Saturday, July 25th, and Sunday, July 26th, 2026. The stalls open in the morning and invite you to browse and admire until the late afternoon. Free admission.
What You'll Find at the Market
- Painting and Graphics — Originals, prints, watercolors
- Sculpture — Sculptures made of wood, stone, metal
- Glass Art — Blown vessels, fusing, lampwork
- Ceramics and Pottery — Functional ceramics and free works
- Textiles and Jewelry — Handmade unique pieces
Live Demonstrations at the Stands
Many artists work directly on-site: pottery wheels spin, sculptors wield their chisels, glassblowers demonstrate hot cutting. For families, this is a real hands-on experience — many stands invite children to try things out for themselves.
The Setting — Festival Meadow by the Nieplitz
The festival meadow is located directly on the Nieplitz, the small river flowing through Beelitz. Shade under old trees, catering with Beelitz specialties (the asparagus season has just ended in July, but regional cuisine remains the focus), and a relaxed atmosphere make the market a classic weekend destination for day-trippers from Berlin and Potsdam.
Organizers
The market is organized by the City of Beelitz and is part of the city's event calendar. Over 2,000 visitors attended the last event.
