Upper Palatinate Kirchweih Tradition
The Kirwa Sindlbach is deeply rooted in Franconian-Upper Palatinate customs. As the Jacobi Kirchweih of the Sindlbach district in the municipality of Berg near Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, it is organized every year by the Burschenverein and Moilaverein Sindlbach. The two clubs, supported by the village youth, erect the festival tent themselves and ensure the smooth running of the Kirwa.
Kirwabaum and Kirwapaare
The centerpiece of the Kirchweih is the decorated Kirwabaum and the Kirwapaare, who perform the traditional Kirwatanz (Kirwa dance) in traditional costume. The dancing around the Kirwabaum is a highlight that makes the younger generation's connection to customs visible and brings generations in the village together.
Festival Tent and Sociability
For three days, the festival tent on Lüssweg transforms into the social center of Sindlbach. Brass band music, regional delicacies, beer, and a varied program attract visitors from the entire Neumarkt district. The Kirwa is thus much more than a festival – it is an expression of village community in the Upper Palatinate.
Voluntary Commitment as a Foundation
The Kirchweih is supported by the voluntary commitment of the Kirwaburschen and Kirwamoila. Their dedication ensures the continuation of a tradition that provides a sense of identity in many Bavarian towns and keeps the region's cultural heritage alive.
