Walpurgis Open Air with live music and fire show in the Vitalpark Bad Sachsa on the southern edge of the Harz
The Walpurgisnacht Bad Sachsa takes place in the Vitalpark, an approximately 6-hectare park and recreation area on the edge of town, with the Schmelzteich pond as its central water feature. The Vitalpark, with its trees, lawns, and playgrounds, provides an ideally suited natural backdrop for the Walpurgis staging.
The musical opening in the evening is provided by songwriter Frank Bode, before the band Anno-nym takes over the main stage program from 7:30 PM with their mix of rock, pop, and cover classics. Both acts are firmly established in the South Harz live music scene and bring the Walpurgis atmosphere to the stage with a concert focus.
The highlight of the evening is the mystical fire show at 10 PM. Fire artists stage a choreographed show with torches, fire staffs, and pyrotechnics, visualizing the witch-like dimension of Walpurgisnacht. The water surface of the Schmelzteich pond reflects the flames, intensifying the effect.
In the tradition of Walpurgisnacht, costumed attire is central. Fully costumed witches and devils get free admission, leading to a characteristic picture of colorful costumes, blackened faces, and elaborate witch hats. Children up to 14 years old also have free admission. This makes the event a family-oriented Walpurgis celebration.
The 2026 edition continues the format with live music and a fire show at the Schmelzteich pond. Frank Bode and the band Anno-nym are regionally well-known acts that reliably provide the musical program for Walpurgis. The fire show at 10 PM is the visual highlight of the evening, staged with pyrotechnics, fire artists, and choreographed movement.
