About Kirchweih Ziegelstein
Kirchweih Ziegelstein — edition 2026
The Kirchweih Ziegelstein 2026 runs in two stages: July 24–27 (first festival weekend with beer tapping on Friday evening) and July 29 – August 2 (second festival weekend with the festival winding down on Sunday evening). In between, there is a short weekday break during which the showmen take a rest and the beer tent is closed.
On the festival grounds in the northeast of Nuremberg, visitors can expect the full spectrum of a Franconian Kirchweih: Kärwabaum, festival tent with Franconian cuisine and beer, stalls with gingerbread and candied almonds, and an amusement ride park with classics like Hopser, Twister, Polyp, Kettenflieger, and Scheibenwischer – the showman offerings announced by the Brauchtumsverein for 2026.

One Kirchweih, Two Weekends
What makes the Kirchweih Ziegelstein special in Nuremberg's district calendar is its exceptional length: the festival grounds on Ziegelsteinstraße remain open over two weekends, interrupted by a short weekday break. This makes the "Zigerschder Kärwa," as locals call it, the longest and largest district Kirchweih in Nuremberg – a top spot among the approximately 30 Kirchweihen celebrated each year from spring to early autumn across the Franconian metropolis.
Kärwabaum and Franconian Customs
As everywhere in Middle Franconia, the Kärwabaum stands at the center of the event, towering visibly over the festival grounds and signaling that the Kirchweih is underway. The organizer is the Ziegelsteiner Brauchtumsverein e.V., which handles the organizational framework: beer tent, showmen, security, and preservation of customs. The festival grounds on Ziegelsteinstraße in the northeast of Nuremberg are located in the city's county-free core area (AGS 09564) and are easily accessible via public transport.
Folk Festival Atmosphere in the District
The Kirchweih Ziegelstein is part of a long tradition of Nuremberg district Kirchweihen that have structured the annual calendar since the Middle Ages. Unlike the large folk festivals in the city center – such as the Spring Festival or the Volksfest at Dutzendteich – these Kärwas are neighborhood festivals: clubs, traditional groups, showmen, and families from the surrounding area jointly shape the program. On the grounds at Ziegelsteinstraße, you'll find amusement rides for children and adults – including Hopser, Polyp, Twister, Scheibenwischer, and Kettenflieger, which are part of the regular repertoire according to the Brauchtumsverein's announcement – along with a beer tent serving Franconian specialties and live music on weekends.
Location in Northern Nuremberg
Ziegelstein is located in statistical district 32 of the city of Nuremberg, nestled between the districts of Buchenbühl, Marienberg, and Großgründlach. It is connected by subway line U2 (terminus Flughafen) and several bus lines. Those who leave their cars at home will save themselves the usual parking search during the festival – and the residents will be grateful too.
Date in the Nuremberg Festival Calendar
In the sequence of Bavarian Kirchweih dates, the Zigerschder Kärwa traditionally marks the height of summer. The official overview from the city of Nuremberg confirms the two-part structure of the event with two consecutive festival weekends – unique within the city limits.
