Kirchweih in a town with a high quality of life
As the days grow shorter in October, Dürrwangen comes together: The market town in the extreme west of Middle Franconia, near the border with Baden-Württemberg, celebrates its traditional Kirchweih on the third Sunday of the month. The baroque parish church of Maria Immaculata is at the center, its Gothic choir presumably dating from the 14th century and its striking onion dome completed in 1724.
Faith, Sociability, and Culinary Delights
In Dürrwangen, the Kirchweih is more than just a folk festival – it is a lived village community. Four inns in the town serve Franconian delicacies over the festival days, from Schäufele to Sauerbraten. The homemade Küchle, fried in lard, which are traditionally served at the Kärwa, play a special role. Associations such as the singing club founded in 1863 and the TSV 08 with its new multi-purpose sports facility shape the festival events.
A Village with Tradition
Dürrwangen sees itself as a livable community where the Kirchweih noticeably structures the annual cycle. Those who want to experience original Franconian customs away from the major tourist crowds will find a down-to-earth, warm Kärwa here, supported by the commitment of local associations and the church community.
