Market Tradition since 1554
The Herbstmarkt Weiltingen is one of the oldest market traditions in the district of Ansbach in the state of Bavaria. In 1554, Emperor Charles V granted the municipality of Weiltingen market rights. Of the once four annual markets, two have survived to this day: the spring market on the second Sunday in May and the autumn market on the first Sunday in October.
Autumn Market and Harvest Festival
The autumn market is closely linked to the harvest festival. The day begins with a harvest thanksgiving service in St. Peter's Church. Afterwards, market stalls, coffee and cake, and delicacies from the kitchen and cellar invite visitors to linger – a village market day that combines tradition and conviviality.
Music and Museum
Live music, such as from the Frankenhofen brass band at the Schlossgraben, accompanies the market. The Costume and Local History Museum, housed in the old tithe barn, features a special exhibition and offers insights into old crafts such as rope making. The museum is open on Sundays between the spring and autumn markets.
Atmosphere
The Herbstmarkt Weiltingen combines centuries-old market tradition, church harvest festival customs, regional culinary delights, and local culture into an authentic autumn festival in Romantic Franconia.
