Historic Market with Harvest Festival since 1554
The Herbstmarkt Weiltingen is one of the oldest market traditions in the district of Ansbach in the state of Bavaria. In 1554, Emperor Charles V granted the municipality of Weiltingen market rights. Of the once four annual markets, two have survived to this day: the spring market on the second Sunday in May and the autumn market on the first Sunday in October.
The autumn market is closely linked to the harvest festival. The day begins with a harvest thanksgiving service in St. Peter's Church. Afterwards, market stalls, coffee and cake, and delicacies from the kitchen and cellar invite visitors to linger – a village market day that combines tradition and conviviality.
Live music, such as from the Frankenhofen brass band at the Schlossgraben, accompanies the market. The Costume and Local History Museum, housed in the old tithe barn, features a special exhibition and offers insights into old crafts such as rope making. The museum is open on Sundays between the spring and autumn markets.
The Herbstmarkt Weiltingen combines centuries-old market tradition, church harvest festival customs, regional culinary delights, and local culture into an authentic autumn festival in Romantic Franconia.
The Herbstmarkt Weiltingen 2026 will be celebrated on the first weekend of October, with the market day on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The day traditionally begins with a harvest thanksgiving service in St. Peter's Church. Afterwards, market stalls, coffee and cake, and specialties from the kitchen and cellar invite visitors to linger. Live music accompanies the market, and the Costume and Local History Museum in the old tithe barn features a special exhibition offering insights into old crafts.
Weiltingen is located in the district of Ansbach in West Middle Franconia, easily accessible via the Dinkelsbühl / Wassertrüdingen region. The market takes place in the town center.
Admission to the Herbstmarkt is free. Food and goods are paid for at the stalls on site.
A visit to the Costume and Local History Museum in the old tithe barn with its special exhibition is particularly worthwhile on market day.
