Advent village of wine at the Calmont
The Eller Wine and Winter Pleasure deliberately offers a contrast to the large commercial Christmas markets in the region. It's not about mass attendance and big stages, but about an intimate, wine-typical Advent atmosphere that fully leverages the special ambiance of the location: narrow alleys, old courtyards, slate-roofed houses under the Calmont, which forms an almost surreal backdrop with its bare vines in the winter light.
Participating wineries open their courtyards and serve mulled wine made from their own grapes – not industrially flavored mass mulled wine, but high-quality Mosel mulled wines, often based on Riesling, Spätburgunder, or Dornfelder cuvées. Fire pits, fairy lights, and candles create a warm atmosphere. Small stalls offer leftover Federweißer from the last harvest, aged wines, regional honeys, handmade liqueurs, and gifts from the Eifel and Mosel regions.
The culinary offerings range from classic winter dishes – pea soup, potato pancakes, bratwurst – to Mosel-typical specialties such as Riesling wild ragout or cheese from the Calmont dairy. Artisans present ceramics, woodwork, knitted textiles, and small Christmas decorations.
The Wine and Winter Pleasure is a hidden gem for those seeking Advent markets away from the major tourist crowds. Anyone who wants to experience the quiet, beautiful Moselle life in winter will find a special setting in Eller on the first weekend of Advent.
The Wine and Winter Pleasure 2026 in Eller takes place on the weekend of the 2nd Advent. The market opens on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, each until early evening. The courtyards and stalls are spread throughout the village center, so a leisurely stroll through the wintery Eller is the natural way to explore.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the tourist association in November. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Highlights: High-quality Mosel mulled wines directly from the vintners, fire pits and fairy lights in the historic alleys, regional handicrafts and manufacturers, St. Nicholas visit for children on Sunday, intimate Advent atmosphere away from the big Christmas markets, backdrop of half-timbered houses under the wintery Calmont.
Free admission. Mulled wine mugs and tasting tokens available at the vintner stands.
Getting there: Via the B49 along the Moselle; parking at the entrance to the village. By train to Bullay, then by bus.
