Sculpture Triennial Bingen – Connection and Cohesion

Since its inception in 2008, the Skulpturen-Triennale Bingen has been an internationally recognized festival for public art. Every three years, Bingen am Rhein transforms for approximately five months into an open-air gallery for contemporary sculpture and installation art. The 7th edition will be held in 2026 under the theme Verbindung und Zusammenhalt (Connection and Cohesion). Festival dates: May 16 to October 4, 2026. Official opening: May 16, 2026.

20 Artists, Riverfront, and Churches

Twenty national and international artists will present sculptures and installations at various locations throughout the city. The main exhibition area is the expansive Binger Kulturufer along the Rhine—an urban promenade that offers the perfect stage for outdoor art with sweeping views of the World Heritage site and the Mäuseturm in the river. Additionally, works will be displayed in two Bingen churches, bridging the spectrum between the sacred and the secular.

Theme: 'Connection and Cohesion'

The theme of the 7th Triennale reflects a time when social bonds, solidarity, and the relationship between the individual and the community are being renegotiated in many ways. The invited artists respond with sculptures that explore relationships, transitions, bridges, knots, and threads of connection. Materials range from classic bronze and steel to wood, stone, contemporary mixed media, and light installations.

Rhine-Main Support Program

A hallmark of the Triennale is its support program. Thanks to a dedicated private donation, three artists from the Rhine-Main region are being supported, giving them the opportunity to create new works specifically for the Triennale and exhibit them in public spaces.

Bingen am Rhein as an Art Destination

For nearly 20 years, the Triennale has helped position Bingen as a hub for art at the UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival is an integral part of the cityscape, accessible free of charge, and turns art into an everyday encounter.
