Wine festival on the Moselle riverbank in the Cond district with views of the old town and Reichsburg Castle
The Cochem Vineyard Festival owes its name to the original concept of guiding visitors to the famous vineyards above the town and tasting the wines directly on the slopes. For logistical reasons – steep paths, difficult deliveries, limited sanitary infrastructure – the festival was moved to the Moselle riverbank in the Cond district in recent years. However, it has lost none of its atmosphere: the location directly on the water, with views of Cochem's old town across the Moselle and the towering silhouette of Reichsburg Castle, is one of the most beautiful festival settings the Middle Moselle has to offer.
The focus is on the Cochem vineyard sites: Pinnerkreuzberg, Bischofstuhl, Schlossberg, Sonnenberg, and Herrenberg produce Rieslings with different characteristics – stony-mineral, floral-aromatic, powerful, or delicate. Cochem's vintners serve their wines directly from their estates, complemented by sparkling wine and a few other grape varieties. For those who want to experience the different vineyard sites side-by-side in a tasting, the Vineyard Festival offers the ideal opportunity – the stands are arranged to make comparison easy.
The catering offers typical Moselle specialties: 'Winzerbraten' (vintner's roast) with potatoes, onion cake, tarte flambée, cheese and cold cuts from regional producers, as well as sweet crepes, waffles, and ice cream. Live music from the folk, pop, and Schlager spectrum accompanies the festival at a quieter volume than is typical for larger wine festivals. The atmosphere is more relaxed and family-friendly than loud and festive. Those wishing to stay overnight will find numerous hotels, guesthouses, and holiday apartments in Cochem within walking distance of the festival grounds.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the City of Cochem in early summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: opening on Friday afternoon, main festival days on Saturday and Sunday, continuous wine service, musical accompaniment in the evenings with local bands, and the festival concluding late Sunday evening.
