Kerwa Tradition in Western Middle Franconia
Dentlein am Forst is a market town in the Ansbach district with a good 2,000 inhabitants. The Pfingstkirchweih is the most important social event of the year and is organized by the market town together with the Dentlein sports club, the Hauf brewery, the Großohrenbronn brass band, the Feuchtwangen musicians, and many local associations. For four days, the whole village is out and about.
From the Brewery Courtyard to the Festival Grounds
The event kicks off on Friday with the Kirchweih parade, which leads from the Hauf brewery to the festival grounds. The musicians from the town of Feuchtwangen accompany the procession, and the Großohrenbronn brass band plays a concert. At the festival grounds, the official beer tapping by the mayor follows — the traditional starting signal for the multi-day festival tent program with Franconian dance bands like the Frankenbengeln and the Dorfbengeln.
Schlachtschüssel, Kerwa-Sau, and Kerwa Cup
Over the weekend, culinary and sporting highlights are spread out: The Dentlein sports club invites you to the traditional Schlachtschüsselessen and Schlachtschüssel sale, and the festival tent spoils you with Franconian Kerwa cuisine. On Sunday and Monday afternoons, there's coffee and homemade cake from the SV. The highlight on Saturday is the competition for the Dentleiner-Kerwa-Pokal (festival cup), and on Sunday evening, the 'Kerwa-Sau' is raffled off — the proceeds traditionally go to the Kita Sternschnuppe daycare center.
The Jedermann-Crosslauf on Whit Monday
A special feature is the Dentleiner Jedermann-Crosslauf, which has been held every Whit Monday around the festival grounds since 2008. The run is deliberately aimed at everyone: children, hobby runners, ambitious athletes, entire families — fun and community are the focus. In 2025, a new format, a 4x480m relay race, was introduced, which will also be offered in 2026.
Dentleiner Kerwa — edition 2026
In 2026, Whit Sunday is May 24 — therefore, the Dentlein Pfingstkirchweih is expected to be celebrated from Friday, May 22, to Whit Monday, May 25, 2026. The market town of Dentlein will publish the detailed program in good time on the specially created Kirchweih-2026 page. The proven schedule — Kirchweih parade on Friday, festival tent dancing with Frankenbengeln and Dorfbengeln, Kerwa Cup on Saturday, festival service on Sunday, raffle of the Kerwa-Sau — will be maintained.

Dentlein am Forst is located in the Ansbach district between Feuchtwangen and Dinkelsbühl, accessible via the B25 (Romantic Road). The festival grounds are on the outskirts of the town.
