»Wieseth is widder Kerwa« – Franconian traditional Kirchweih in September
The Kirchweih Wieseth is the annual traditional Kirchweih of the Central Franconian municipality of Wieseth in the district of Ansbach. It is always celebrated on the second weekend in September and, according to the Fränkische Landeszeitung, is considered a "highlight of community life". The festival is supported by the voluntary commitment of local clubs, including the sports club, anglers' association, brass band, and fire department.
The Kerwa opens on Friday at 5 p.m. with the festival tent opening. The Kerwa-Madli and Kerwa-Buam (Kirchweih girls and boys) erect the Kerwabaum, and the mayor taps the first barrel of Kirchweih beer. In the evening, bands like »Frankenbengel« and »Hally Gally« create a lively atmosphere in the festival tent. The day before, the Wieseth brass band already livens up the prelude with the tradition of the Schlachtschüssel (a traditional pork dish) in a tent on Talstraße.
On Kirchweih Sunday, the festive church service in the parish church of St. Wenzeslaus and St. Sebastian is the focus at 9:30 a.m., accompanied musically by the brass choir and organist. A midday meal, as well as coffee, cake, and ice cream in the community center, invite visitors to linger. On Kirchweih Monday, the fire department hosts a Frühschoppen (morning pint) breakfast with live music in the festival tent.
The Kerwa in Wieseth combines the church's patronal feast, customs, and conviviality into a multi-day village festival. With the Kerwabaum, Bieranstich, Schlachtschüssel, and festive church service, it is a prime example of the vibrant Kirchweih culture of Central Franconia and a firm social meeting point in the district of Ansbach.
The Kirchweih Wieseth 2026 is expected to take place from Thursday, September 10, to Monday, September 14, 2026 – corresponding to the traditional date on the second weekend of September. The prelude with the Schlachtschüssel by the brass band, the festival tent operations from Friday 5 p.m. with the erection of the Kerwabaum by the Kerwa-Madli and Kerwa-Buam and the mayor's Bieranstich, live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, the festive church service on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the parish church of St. Wenzeslaus and St. Sebastian, and the Frühschoppen breakfast by the fire department on Monday form the traditional festival sequence. The exact dates and program will be announced by the municipality before the Kerwa.
Wieseth is located in the district of Ansbach, accessible via state roads towards Dinkelsbühl/Feuchtwangen and the A7 motorway (Feuchtwangen exit). The festival tent is located on the village's festival grounds.
Admission is free; food and drinks are offered in the festival tent and by the clubs.
Friday from 5 p.m. festival tent operations with Kerwabaum and Bieranstich; Sunday 9:30 a.m. festive church service; Monday from 10 a.m. Frühschoppen.
