Franconian Kerwa Tradition
The Auracher Gänswosn-Kerwa is the annual Kirchweih of the municipality of Aurach in the district of Ansbach (Middle Franconia, Bavaria). The Kirchweih – Franconian "Kerwa" or "Kärwa" – is celebrated extensively in the region and is one of the fixed traditional dates in the West Middle Franconian event calendar. The venue is Blumenauer Platz in Aurach.
Course of the Kerwa
The Kirchweih traditionally spans several days on the third weekend in October:
- Saturday: Kirchweih parade through the town and raising of the Kärwabaum in the afternoon, followed by beer tapping by the mayor in the festival tent; afternoon brass music (Thürnhofen music band), evening dance band
- Sunday: Festive church service at 10 a.m. in the parish church, lunch from 11 a.m., coffee and cake from 12 p.m. in the festival tent
This includes a beer tent, rides, and a regional market with Kirchweih stalls.
