Kirchheim Cycling Night — Racing with a Town Festival Character

When the evenings get long and mild in early July, the town of Kirchheim unter Teck ushers in one of its most beautiful summer traditions: the Kirchheim Cycling Night. What sounds like a pure sports event is actually a summer town festival with a sporting highlight — the pedestrian zone becomes a race track, and the squares around it become festival grounds with a stage, catering, and an open-air atmosphere. Thousands of spectators line the route and celebrate a true night of sport under the open sky.

The Race Circuit — City Center Loop

The route follows a circuit through the Kirchheim city center: across Marktstraße, the market square with the town hall, Schlierbacher Straße, and back. A compact course with tight corners, short climbs, and fast straights — challenging, technical, and perfect for spectators who can see the riders whiz by multiple times.

Program — Preliminary Races from 4:30 PM, Main Race from 7:00 PM

The racing action begins in the afternoon with preliminary races: pupil classes, junior classes, seniors, amateur cyclists, and club teams. These preliminary programs are the beautiful social heart of the event — many participants come from the Middle Neckar region and the Swabian Jura, often entire club teams from the Württemberg Cycling Association.

The main race starts around 7:00 PM — licensed riders from the region compete against invited professional teams. Classes vary depending on the year — amateur, elite amateur, or special elite classes. Live commentary, a scoreboard, cycling sports atmosphere — all against the historic backdrop of the Kirchheim city center.

Festive Supporting Program

Parallel to the race, there is a stage program on the squares along the route with live music (acoustic, cover, Latin), food stalls with Swabian specialties, bratwurst, crêpes, cocktails, draft beer, and wine. You'll find a relaxed summer atmosphere here — typical of the Swabian summer nights around the Albtrauf.

The town of Kirchheim unter Teck, with around 40,000 inhabitants, is located at the foot of the Swabian Jura, about 30 kilometers southeast of Stuttgart. The town is famous for its castle, Burg Teck on the mountain above, its medieval townscape, and its location on the historic Schillerstraße. The city center with its charming market square and pedestrian zone is an ideal setting for an evening town festival. The Cycling Night is one of the highlights in the Kirchheim summer calendar.
