A Day for Düren Families

The City of Düren's Kinderkulturfest is an annual summer event that transforms Willy-Brandt-Park into a large playground and sports area for one Saturday. Six hours of programming from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, completely free and easily accessible for families of all income levels — a programmatic decision that Mayor Frank Peter Ullrich explicitly emphasizes: “So that all families can participate, regardless of their wallet.” In 2026, the festival falls on Saturday, June 13.

Sports and Movement Activities

• Dance demonstrations by Düren dance clubs — from classic garde dancers to modern choreographies
• Martial arts demonstrations by local clubs — Karate, Judo, Taekwondo
• Cheerleading performances by school teams
• Handball interactive stations in cooperation with Düren handball clubs
• Boxing climbing arena — an unusual attraction with a climbing box structure

Creative Program

• Face painting at several stations
• Creative workshops with crafting and painting activities
• Stage shows for children with music, dance, and theater

Organization and Sponsors

The organizer is the City of Düren, coordinated by the municipal administration in collaboration with local sports, dance, and cultural clubs. Main sponsors are Sparkasse Düren, Stadtwerke Düren, and Bürgerstiftung Düren — a constellation of municipal and private sector players that financially support the festival, thus enabling free admission.

Willy-Brandt-Park as Festival Area

The Willy-Brandt-Park is a central green space in the city of Düren with ample room for several parallel program stations, a large lawn area for the stages, and enough trees for shade on hot summer days. The park offers the ideal backdrop for a family festival — safe, clearly laid out, with restroom facilities and connections to Düren's city center.

Düren, with around 91,000 inhabitants, is the district town of the Düren district, located on the western edge of the Rhine-Meuse region between Aachen and Cologne. The city is conveniently located via the A4 and A44 motorways and connected to Cologne, Aachen, and the Rhineland by train. Those who combine the Kinderkulturfest with a weekend in the region can visit the Eifel National Park, the Burgau Water Castle (Düren district), or the city of Aachen.
