The Orchideen Sunday Parade — Carnival in Düren

The Düren Carnival Parade — traditionally called Orchideen Sunday Parade because it starts not on Rose Monday, but on the Sunday before — is the largest carnival parade in the Düren district and one of the most atmospheric in the region between Cologne, Aachen, and the Eifel. In 2026, it takes place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM — one day before Rose Monday.

New Route 2026 — 3 Kilometers Through the City Center

In 2026, the parade will follow a revised route: Kreuzstraße → Bismarckstraße → Schützenstraße → Hohenzollernstraße → Friedrichstraße → Friedrichplatz → Oberstraße → Marktplatz → Zehnthofstraße → Schenkelstraße → back to Bismarckstraße. The route covers approximately 3 kilometers and leads participants through the entire Düren city center.

After-Parade Party

After the parade, the committee procession moves to the Dorint Hotel Düren, where the After-Parade Party takes place in the main hall: walking groups, carnival bands, and participants meet to round off the day in a cheerful atmosphere. Admission by ticket — usually available through the carnival societies.

Rose Monday — The District Parades

On Rose Monday, February 16, 2026, smaller district parades will take place starting at 2:00 PM: Echtz, Lendersdorf, Gürzenich, Merken, Birkesdorf. Family-friendly, with shorter routes and many floats from the village communities. Ideal for those who want to experience carnival in the Rhenish village style.

Tips for Spectators

Dressing up is practically mandatory — and yes, shouting “Kamelle, Kamelle!” (sweets, sweets!) helps in catching candy. Families position themselves along the quieter sections of the route (Schenkelstraße, Zehnthofstraße), while hardcore carnival-goers gather at Marktplatz and Friedrichplatz. Public transport recommendation: Take the Rurtalbahn to Düren — the city center is completely closed during the parade.
