A Swabian Heritage Festival Tradition
The Laupheim Children's and Heritage Festival is one of Upper Swabia's most important heritage festivals — with parades, historical reenactments, an amusement park, a festival tent program, and vibrant club life. Five days of full program from Thursday to Monday, embedded in a 200-year-old festival tradition. The town is completely transformed — the city center, festival grounds, Kulturhaus Schloss Großlaupheim, and all inns participate.
Opening Parade Friday
The grand opening on Friday, June 26, 2026, is the opening parade — a colorful procession through the city center with clubs, brass bands, traditional costume groups, and historical formations. Afterwards, festival operations in the tent and on the amusement park.
Star March of the Fanfares
A special feature of Laupheim is the star march of the fanfares — usually on Saturday or Sunday. Several fanfare bands from Laupheim and friendly towns march from different districts towards the central festival grounds in a star pattern and meet there for a joint concert. A spectacular choreography that visually shapes the heritage festival.
Heritage Hour at the Castle
The official heritage hour takes place at the Kulturhaus Schloss Großlaupheim during the heritage festival — a festive ceremony with speeches, historical contributions, awards for deserving citizens, and musical accompaniment. Schloss Großlaupheim, the former city palace of the Freiherren von Welden, provides a worthy backdrop for the festive occasion with its reception hall and ballroom.
Landsknechtszug Ellerbach-Freyberg — 40 Year Anniversary
2026 is a special year: The Landsknechtszug Ellerbach-Freyberg — a historical reenactment group that has participated in the heritage festival for 40 years with drums, flags, Landsknecht costumes, and Swabian-Austrian combat demonstrations — celebrates its anniversary. The anniversary will be marked with special performances, guided tours, and a celebratory event.
Reenactment and Camp Life
In addition to the Landsknechtszug, other historical reenactment groups participate in the heritage festival. The "Baltringer Haufen" commemorates the Peasants' War of 1525 with camp life in the Hasengrube. There, you can experience craft demonstrations such as blacksmithing, pottery, bread baking, as well as historical dances and combat displays.
Rottalmolle — Replica of the Steam Locomotive
A special attraction is the "Rottalmolle" — a replica of the historic steam locomotive of the Rottalbahn (1904–1985). During the heritage festival, it runs on a short section of track and particularly attracts children.
Laupheim — District Town with Jewish History
Laupheim, with a population of just over 23,000, is the district town of Biberach in Upper Swabia. It is famous for its Jewish history — until the Nazi era, Laupheim was home to one of Württemberg's largest Jewish communities. The Museum for the History of Jews in Württemberg at Schloss Großlaupheim, one of Southern Germany's most important Jewish museums, documents this history.
