Advent market at the bell tower and St. Mary's Church in the heart of Wardenburg
When the bell tower of St. Mary's Church is festively illuminated on the second weekend of Advent and fir green and fairy lights adorn the Klinerstraße, the Wardenburg Christmas Market opens. The pre-Christmas townscape is created through close cooperation between the church, local businesses, and the voluntary commitment of numerous clubs and citizens.
The market stalls focus on regional products and North German Advent traditions. Artisans offer handmade decorative items, jewelry, textiles, and gift ideas. The gastronomic offerings range from hearty kale dishes to freshly smoked fish and pancakes, as well as classic Advent specialties. The mulled wine is sourced organically, which distinguishes the market from many commercial large-scale events.
2026 marks a change in the event calendar: the market will take place on the second weekend of Advent for the first time, no longer on the first Advent. The organizers are responding to feedback from the community and scheduling conflicts with neighboring markets in Oldenburg, Hatten, and Großenkneten.
The WFV Wirtschaftsförderungsverein Wardenburg e.V. is the organizer of the market. Stall registrations can be made via the association's website. The market complements the Day of Associations, the Autumn Market, and the Countryside Fair, creating a dense annual program that positions Wardenburg as a vibrant center for shopping and experiences.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by WFV Wardenburg in late autumn. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: opening in the late afternoon or morning, stalls open until the evening, and a cozy Sunday edition with a family focus.
The change of date to the 2nd Advent is the most important innovation for 2026 and aims to increase the market's visibility during the Advent season.
Updates will be posted on wfv-wardenburg.de.
