Traditional Spessart Kerb with Kerb procession, Kerb goat and music club
Geiselbach is a small community with just under 1,100 inhabitants in the Vorspessart, located in the far west of the Aschaffenburg district — a direct neighbor of Hesse, with the Hessian accent and the Hessian term "Kerb" instead of the Franconian "Kärwa". This is where the language border between Hessian and Main Franconian runs — and the Geiselbacher Kerb plays with both traditions. It is one of the biggest social events of the year in the village.
The organizer is the Musikverein 1952 Geiselbach e.V., which has been organizing the festival for decades. As early as 1953 — one year after the club was founded — the MV Geiselbach first marched in the Kerb procession. This became a firm tradition: the Kerb belongs to the music club, and the music club brings the Kerb. With a festival tent, bar, live music, and volunteer community work, the club organizes the entire weekend.
The emblematic element is the Kerb procession with the annually newly elected Kerbgas (Kerb goat maid) and her Kerb maids, who parade through the village in traditional costume. The Kerb procession is colorful, loud, cheerful — and no less important to the Geiselbach locals than the parade for the 50th birthday of a Bavarian Volksfest. In addition, there are festival evenings with live music, a cocktail bar, and the traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint).
Geiselbach lies on the Geiselbach river, nestled in the forests and hills of the Vorspessart. The community belongs to the Schöllkrippen administrative association and is connected to Schöllkrippen, Wasserlos, and the Kahltal via district road AB14. Those who know the Spessart as the "green heart of Germany" will find in Geiselbach exactly the right mix of forest, village community, and unadulterated festival customs.
In 2026, the Musikverein 1952 Geiselbach e.V. will again organize the Geiselbacher Kerb in its established format. From Sunday, July 26th, to Monday, July 27th, the Kerb procession, festival tent, and music will shape the image of the small Vorspessart community. The festival traditionally opens with a Frühschoppen and the setting up of the Kerb paraphernalia.
On Sunday afternoon, the Kerb procession forms through the village, with the newly elected Kerbgas and her Kerb maids in festive attire. In the evening, there will be live music in the festival tent, along with the popular club cocktail bar, which has become an attraction for the younger generation in recent years. Monday is the classic Kerb Monday — with an afternoon for companies and seniors, honors for long-standing club members, and a cozy end to the festival.
Detailed program and exact times will be announced in advance by the Musikverein Geiselbach and on the club's Facebook page. The festival has followed a similar schedule since the 1950s — Kerb procession on the weekend day, Kerb Monday with honors.
Geiselbach is located about 30 km northeast of Aschaffenburg and 60 km east of Frankfurt am Main. By car via the A45 (exit Schöllkrippen/Krombach), then via the Kahltal to Geiselbach. Limited by train: nearest station Schöllkrippen, then bus or taxi. Parking in the village area.
Admission to the festival grounds and the Kerb procession is free. Food and drinks at festival prices, tickets for evening events can be purchased individually depending on the program.
Kerb Saturday evening with live music and cocktail bar is the social highlight — arrive early, as the festival tent fills up quickly. For overnight stays: small guesthouses in Schöllkrippen, Krombach, or Wasserlos, or hotels in Aschaffenburg (car distance).
