An Advent Market with Village Charm
In the shadow of the Spessart forest, on the border with the Hessian Vorspessart, the community of Geiselbach annually invites you to its Christmas Market in the Rectory Garden. What began in 2006 as a small initiative by local clubs has developed into one of the most popular Advent events in the northern district of Aschaffenburg – not least because the market has retained its original character: manageable, cordial, and without commercial hustle and bustle.
Rectory Garden and Advent Exhibition
The venue is the Rectory Garden directly next to the Catholic parish church, complemented by an Advent exhibition in the town hall. Local craftspeople present woodwork, felt and knitted goods, candles, Advent wreaths, honey from the region, and Spessart fir branches. At the stalls of the clubs, bratwurst, mulled wine, and the famous Geiselbach apple cake fill the air. The community of Geiselbach belongs to the district of Aschaffenburg in the administrative region of Lower Franconia.
Music, St. Nicholas, and Children's Program
The market is traditionally opened by the Geiselbach Music Association, which, by early evening at the latest, performs a Christmas stand concert from the town hall balcony. The kindergarten children perform songs and poems, and later St. Nicholas himself arrives to give gifts to the little ones. For many families from the surrounding Spessart villages – Schöllkrippen, Krombach, Sommerkahl, Westerngrund – visiting the Geiselbach market has become a firm Advent tradition.
Spessart Delicacies and Mulled Wine
The local clubs take care of the culinary offerings: bratwurst from a charcoal grill, Spessart mulled wine with regional Spessart apple wines, children's punch, crêpes, waffles, and stollen. The proceeds traditionally go to club projects and charitable causes in the community of Geiselbach.
A Hidden Gem in the Spessart
Anyone who shies away from the hustle and bustle of the large Christmas markets in Aschaffenburg or Frankfurt and is looking for a relaxed Advent afternoon in a rural setting will find the right format in Geiselbach. Its location on the edge of the Spessart Nature Park also invites you for a winter walk in the woods. Geiselbach is Bavaria's northwesternmost municipality in the district of Aschaffenburg.
