Schützenfest Listerschützen Hunswinkel — Tradition by the Water
Likely from July 24th to 26th, 2026, the Listerschützen will celebrate their annual highlight in Hunswinkel — the Meinerzhagen district directly on the Listertalsperre. The Listerhalle at Listerstraße 30 forms the heart of the festival. Setup dates before the festival: Wednesday, July 22nd, 6 PM; Thursday, July 23rd, 6 PM; Saturday, July 25th, 10 AM; Sunday, July 26th, 10:30 AM — the exact festival date is usually published a few weeks in advance.
Listerschützen — Club in the Sauerland
The Listerschützen are a traditional marksmen's club that preserves the Schützen tradition in the southern Sauerland. The Schützenfest is the highlight of their club year. In addition, the club also organizes the Easter bonfire (which gathered around 300 visitors at the Listerhalle in 2026) and club shooting events, as well as other events around the Listerhalle.
Hunswinkel — on the Shores of the Listertalsperre
The district of Hunswinkel belongs to the town of Meinerzhagen in the Märkischer Kreis (North Rhine-Westphalia, Sauerland) and is located directly on the Listertalsperre. This drinking water reservoir is part of the Sauerland reservoir system, fed by the Lister, and significantly shapes the landscape of the area. Forests, water, and meadows surround Hunswinkel — an atmospheric backdrop for a Schützenfest.
Program — Marksmanship and Sociability
The Schützenfest follows a proven schedule:
- Preparation and setup in advance
- King's shooting competition
- Festival parade through the district
- Crowning of the King and Queen
- Festival evenings with music in the Listerhalle
- Sociability, dancing, and regional food
Meinerzhagen — Town in the Märkisches Sauerland
The town of Meinerzhagen (around 20,000 inhabitants) is located in the southern Märkischer Kreis, at the transition to the Oberbergischer Kreis. With its numerous districts — including Hunswinkel, Valbert, Ihne, and Krummenerl — it covers a vast municipal area between the Listertalsperre, the Volme region, and the A45 motorway. The Schützenfest tradition, like in many Sauerland towns, is part of the village identity.
