Nußdorf Maypole Festival

A Palatinate Village Festival on May 1st

The city village of Nußdorf, north of Landau's center, is one of the most charming wine villages on the Südliche Weinstraße. The Maibaumfest on May 1st is one of the most important festivals of the village year. The colorfully decorated maypole is erected on the central village square starting at 11 a.m., and a varied catering program is offered. The festival is jointly organized by the youth fire brigade association St. Florian Nußdorf and the association St. Florian Nußdorf, and it is an important meeting point for the village community.

Culinary Offerings

In the morning, Weißwürste, pretzels, and breakfast options are served. From 1 p.m. onwards, coffee and homemade cake from the ovens of the Nußdorf association members follow. Palatinate wines from local vintners, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks complete the offerings. The atmosphere is familial, many visitors know each other, and guests from the neighboring Landau center gladly come on foot or by bicycle.

150 Years of Nußdorf Fire Brigade

In 2026, the Nußdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade celebrates its 150th anniversary. The Maibaumfest is therefore entirely dedicated to the anniversary. The youth fire brigade will give demonstrations, and a new AED defibrillator will be handed over to the village community. Thus, the festival combines tradition with modern civic engagement.

Children's Program

For the youngest guests, a bouncy castle and the popular fire brigade spray wall will be set up. Children can try out the fire hoses, which is a highlight every year. Craft activities, face painting, and small games are also included.

Atmosphere and Significance

The Maibaumfest is representative of the vibrant village community in Landau's city villages. In small structures, with great volunteer effort, and in a cheerful, personal atmosphere, Palatinate festival culture is kept alive here – a welcome counterpoint to the large folk festivals of the region.
