A pier celebrates its birthday

The Kellenhusen pier was opened in 2007 and now extends 220 meters into the Baltic Sea. It is the landmark of the Baltic seaside resort of Kellenhusen in the Ostholstein district of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Every year, the community celebrates the opening date with an all-day festival on the beach and a spectacular pyromusical finale — the "Seebrücke im Lichtermeer" (Pier in a Sea of Lights).

The Day's Program

Throughout the festival day, various program items will take place on the beach and on the pier:

• During the day: Family program with games, children's entertainment, culinary stands
• Afternoon: Live music on the beach with bands from Northern Germany
• Evening: Main concert on the pier stage
• Around 11:00 p.m.: Pyromusical fireworks display synchronized to music, launched from the beach over the Baltic Sea

The Pyrotechnics Spectacle

The highlight of the festival is the pyromusical fireworks display. A specially compiled music suite of classical music, film scores, and current hits will be played over loudspeakers on the beach, while the pyrotechnicians react precisely to every beat. The reflection of the lights on the Baltic Sea and the silhouette of the pier give the spectacle a special touch.

Atmosphere on the Beach

The pier festival is not a ticketed event — the entire beach and the pier are freely accessible. You come, find a spot on the sand or promenade, buy food and drinks from one of the stands, and enjoy the day until the fireworks. Families with children, holidaymakers, and locals mingle.
