Winter Festival in the Forchheim Kellerwald
The Forchheim Kellerwald is a unique natural monument: a historic forest with over 100 beer cellars carved into the rock underground. In summer, it's known as the world's largest beer garden; in winter, it becomes the stage for the Kellerwald Winterzauber. A special winter atmosphere is created among the old trees and illuminated rock cellars.
From Cellar to Cellar
The concept is a winter circuit: visitors wander with family and friends from cellar to cellar, discovering the unique charm of each cellar tavern. Drinks include mulled gin, hot chocolate, or fruit punch, accompanied by culinary specialties. The upper festival grounds feature food trucks, a wide selection of stalls, and a carousel for children, adding to the festive flair.
Live Music and Family Programme
Live music accompanies the Winterzauber on festival days, complemented by children's activities and family offerings. The weather plays a role in the Winterzauber: the original date in late January/early February 2026 had to be postponed at short notice due to heavy snowfall that paralyzed all of Franconia — a testament to the festival's deep connection with the Franconian winter.
Forchheim and the Kellerwald
Forchheim, the "Royal Town" on the edge of the Franconian Switzerland, is famous for its cellar culture and the Annafest. The Kellerwald is located on the outskirts of the town and is accessible on foot from the old town. A visit to the Winterzauber can be combined with a stroll through Forchheim's historic old town.
