Three days of African music, dance, art, and crafts in the courtyard of the Kaiserpfalz
Since its inception, the Afrika Kulturtage Forchheim has become one of the most important African cultural festivals in Bavaria. The venue is the idyllic courtyard of the Kaiserpfalz Forchheim – one of the most significant medieval imperial palace complexes in Southern Germany. The festival is organized by the Pfalzmuseum Forchheim, which designs the program together with the Junges Theater Forchheim e.V. Forchheim, the district town in the Upper Franconian district of the same name (state of Bavaria), thus becomes a stage for African art and culture for three days.
The focus is on concerts by international bands and solo artists. The festival combines musical styles from West and Central Africa with European influences – Rumba-Afro-Folk fusion, Afro-pop, traditional drumming ensembles. Past editions have featured bands like Tribubu (Rumba-Afro-Folk fusion with members from Spain, England, and Ivory Coast) as well as solo artists like Mary Anibal and K'Daanso. In addition, there is an African bazaar with arts and crafts, instruments, and culinary specialties, as well as drumming and dance workshops for all levels.
The Kaiserpfalz Forchheim is one of the few surviving imperial palace complexes from the medieval royal period in Southern Germany and today houses the Pfalzmuseum. Its courtyard provides an extraordinary open-air venue for concerts and festivals. The Afrika Kulturtage showcase the versatility of this location – where imperial history meets contemporary world culture.
The 2026 edition of the Afrika Kulturtage Forchheim opens its doors from Friday, July 3rd, to Sunday, July 5th, in the courtyard of the Kaiserpfalz. The musical highlight will be the AFRODREAM main concert on Saturday, July 4th, at 8 PM.
Throughout the three days, a diverse supporting program accompanies the festival: a special exhibition at the Pfalzmuseum, an African bazaar with market stalls around the Kaiserpfalz, drumming workshops, dance classes, a children's participation program (African fairy tales, sand paintings), storytelling, cabaret, and magic. The festival presents itself as a stage for African artists and a place for cultural exchange.
Free admission to the courtyard program on Friday. Ticketed on Saturday and Sunday – tickets for the AFRODREAM main concert available via reservix.de and the Pfalzmuseum. Sources: kaiserpfalz.forchheim.de, reservix.de.
