Village festival on the Rhine

Kappel-Grafenhausen is a twin municipality in the Emmendingen district on the Upper Rhine, characterized by agriculture, the Black Forest to the east, and France on the other side of the Rhine. The Kappel district has around 2,500 inhabitants and is located directly on the old Rhine — a location that makes the village festival one of the quietest and most atmospheric summer events in the Ortenau region. The organizer is the Kappel Interest Group (IG Kappel), the umbrella organization of local clubs.

Club festival on the festival grounds

The venue is the Kappel festival grounds on Eisenbahnstraße in the town center. The Kappel clubs — music association, sports club, volunteer fire brigade, rural women's association, parish community, and local heritage society — set up their stalls on the grounds and in the adjacent streets. Baden classics (rump steak, fries, bratwurst), tarte flambée from a mobile wood-fired oven, Palatinate and Kaiserstuhl wines, as well as beer from regional breweries (Rothaus, Ganter, Waldhaus) are offered.

Music and dance

The Kappel music association, cover bands from the Ortenau region, and DJs take turns on the festival stage throughout the evening. The traditional Sunday morning early bird gathering with brass music from neighboring music associations, as well as a family afternoon with activities, face painting, and a bouncy castle, are also part of the program. The festival itself is one of two major village festivals in the annual event calendar of the municipality of Kappel-Grafenhausen.
