Jazz in the historic courtyards of the market town — the country outing of the Bavarian Jazzweekend
At the beginning of July, the Bavarian Jazzweekend transforms into the largest free-admission festival of its kind in Southern Germany. While Regensburg's old town offers over 14 stages, the festival spirit has also been extending "into the countryside" since 2024 — and Kallmünz, the idyllic rocky market town at the confluence of the Naab and Vils rivers, has become the second center of the event.
The market town of Kallmünz in the district of Regensburg boasts one of the most beautiful townscapes in the Upper Palatinate and thus in Bavaria. Colorful houses huddle beneath a striking castle ruin, narrow alleys wind down to the Naab river, and courtyards hide workshops, galleries, and small inns. It is precisely this organic structure that forms the stage for the Jazzweekend: not a festival mile, but a stroll from courtyard to courtyard, from sound to sound.
The participating venues are far more than just stages — they are places with their own character:
The booking covers a broad spectrum each year: Modern Jazz, Swing, Bossa Nova, Hard Bop, Brazilian, and crossover projects with hip-hop or soul influences. Around nine to ten ensembles perform per year. A free shuttle bus runs between Regensburg and Kallmünz during the weekend, allowing visitors to experience both festival locations on the same day.
Like the entire Bavarian Jazzweekend, the Kallmünz antenna is completely free of charge. The event is financed by the City of Regensburg (Cultural Office), regional sponsors, and voluntary contributions — it's played for the audience, not for statistics.
The third edition of the Jazzweekend in Kallmünz is part of the 45th Bavarian Jazzweekend (July 2–5, 2026 in Regensburg). The Kallmünz antenna's program focuses on the weekend of July 3 to 5 and includes nine performances in seven courtyards.
Organized by the association OANS Kallmünz in collaboration with the City of Regensburg. Program changes will be announced on oans-kallmuenz.com.
The concerts are spread across the seven venues: Ott-Haus, CALLM-Areal, Kulturschmiede, Atelier Wigg, Schloss Raitenbuch, Bürstenbinder, and Postbräu. The assignment of ensembles to the courtyards will be communicated shortly before the festival on oans-kallmuenz.com and jazzwe.de.
Kallmünz is located about 25 km north of Regensburg on the Naab river. By car via the B 8 / B 16 (parking on the outskirts of the town; the alleys in the old town are narrow). A free shuttle bus runs from Regensburg during the festival weekend (departures Saturdays around 3:00 PM and 6:30 PM, return trips 5:30 PM and 11:00 PM — exact times at jazzwe.de).
All concerts are free of charge. Tips placed in the collection hats and purchases at the stands support the musicians.
