About Jazzweekend Kallmünz

The Jazzweekend Kallmünz is the rural antenna of the Bavarian Jazzweekend, which transforms the entire city of Regensburg into an open jazz stage every year at the beginning of July. In the picturesque market town of Kallmünz in the district of Regensburg, seven historic courtyards and indoor spaces serve as stages: Ott-Haus, CALLM-Areal, Kulturschmiede, Atelier Wigg, Schloss Raitenbuch, Bürstenbinder, and Postbräu. Selected ensembles from the regional and supra-regional jazz universe are invited — from Modern Jazz and Swing to Brazilian Grooves. Free admission, intimate atmosphere, Naab river view included.

Jazzweekend Kallmünz — when the market becomes the stage

At the beginning of July, the Bavarian Jazzweekend transforms into the largest free-admission festival of its kind in Southern Germany. While Regensburg's old town offers over 14 stages, the festival spirit has also been extending "into the countryside" since 2024 — and Kallmünz, the idyllic rocky market town at the confluence of the Naab and Vils rivers, has become the second center of the event.

Kallmünz in the district of Regensburg — a picture-perfect market town

The market town of Kallmünz in the district of Regensburg boasts one of the most beautiful townscapes in the Upper Palatinate and thus in Bavaria. Colorful houses huddle beneath a striking castle ruin, narrow alleys wind down to the Naab river, and courtyards hide workshops, galleries, and small inns. It is precisely this organic structure that forms the stage for the Jazzweekend: not a festival mile, but a stroll from courtyard to courtyard, from sound to sound.

Seven courtyards, seven atmospheres

The participating venues are far more than just stages — they are places with their own character:

  • CALLM-Areal — former industrial site, now a cultural hub
  • Kulturschmiede — historic forge with floor-to-ceiling doors
  • Atelier Wigg — art space in the heart of the town
  • Schloss Raitenbuch — Renaissance castle on the outskirts of the market town
  • Bürstenbinder — courtyard of a traditional house
  • Postbräu — inn with a beer garden
  • Ott-Haus — bourgeois house in the town center

Program and Styles

The booking covers a broad spectrum each year: Modern Jazz, Swing, Bossa Nova, Hard Bop, Brazilian, and crossover projects with hip-hop or soul influences. Around nine to ten ensembles perform per year. A free shuttle bus runs between Regensburg and Kallmünz during the weekend, allowing visitors to experience both festival locations on the same day.

Admission and Festival Philosophy

Like the entire Bavarian Jazzweekend, the Kallmünz antenna is completely free of charge. The event is financed by the City of Regensburg (Cultural Office), regional sponsors, and voluntary contributions — it's played for the audience, not for statistics.

Jazzweekend Kallmünz — edition 2026
