A year of culture in the picturesque market town on the Naab
Kultureck Kallmünz e.V. is the umbrella organization behind one of the most ambitious cultural offerings in the northern Upper Palatinate. Throughout the year, it organizes concerts, literary readings, classical evenings, and visual arts exhibitions — all set within the historic town center of Kallmünz, at the confluence of the Vils and Naab rivers. Those seeking a season ticket to Kallmünz culture will find the most comprehensive event calendar in the region at KulturEck.
The 2026 program will utilize three very different locations: the Pirklhof (Vilsgasse 25) for concerts with a courtyard atmosphere, the K3 for more intimate literary formats, and the KULTURSCHMIEDE as a historic venue for classical concerts. Additionally, exhibitions will be shown at KulturEck itself. This diversity of venues is one of the hallmarks of Kallmünz culture.
Music: On June 20, 2026, Susi Raith und die Spiesser will perform at Pirklhof — dialect pop, rock, and classical music with fine regional nuances. The in-house festival Klassik Kallmünz follows on July 18 and 19 with chamber music, an organ concert, and a choral matinee.
Visual Arts: From September 11 to 27, Querschnitt 26 will present the works of KulturEck artists. The opening reception is on September 11, with exhibitions open on weekends.
Literature: On October 9, 2026, the literary homage »Wie soll ich meine Seele halten...« by Magdalena Damjantschitsch and Johannes Wilkes will be heard at K3 — an evening dedicated to Paula Modersohn-Becker and Rainer Maria Rilke, whose 150th birthdays fall in that year.
Kallmünz has been an attraction for artists since the 19th century — the market town was discovered in 1903 by the artists' colony around Wassily Kandinsky and has since been considered one of the most beautiful places in the Upper Palatinate. The castle ruins above the Naab, the narrow alleys, and its location at the Danube-Vils-Naab junction provide the setting for the cultural program — and turn every concert or reading visit into a mini-vacation.
The 2026 season of KulturEck Kallmünz spans from summer to autumn, guiding visitors through three of the market town's most beautiful cultural venues: Pirklhof, K3, and KULTURSCHMIEDE. Dialect pop meets classical music, classical music meets visual arts, and visual arts meet literature — the common thread is the fusion of high culture with the village-like artistic spirit characteristic of Kallmünz.
2026 also marks the 150th birthdays of Paula Modersohn-Becker and Rainer Maria Rilke — the occasion for the homage »Wie soll ich meine Seele halten...«, in which Magdalena Damjantschitsch and Johannes Wilkes read from diaries and letters, exploring the artistic and literary relationship between these two figures of the Worpswede bohemian scene.
