About Japanmarkt Berlin

Berlin's Japanese diaspora is small but culturally very visible. Since 2014, the Berlin-based event company Japan Events has organized the Japanmarkt Berlin twice a year (winter and summer) — the capital's largest Japanese cultural event. Featuring 60+ exhibitors from design, fashion, jewelry, kimono fashion, and culinary arts, plus live concerts with MIYU & JAY and SOSOSO, a samurai school (Hokushin Ittō-Ryū from Tokyo, 200 years of tradition), a kimono fashion show, Taiko drumming (Taiko Lin), and a food court with Okonomiyaki, Taiyaki, and Ramen. The 23rd edition (Summer 2026) will take place on July 5, 2026, at Festsaal Kreuzberg — one of Berlin's most versatile venues, located right on the Flutgraben.

Japan in Berlin — A Biannual Festival

The Japanmarkt Berlin has been established since 2014. The organizer is the Berlin-based company Japan Events, which organizes a full-day Japanese cultural event twice a year (winter and summer). The market serves as a platform for Berlin's Japanese diaspora and for the growing German Japan fan scene, which has formed around anime, manga, kawaii, matcha, and wabi-sabi.

Festsaal Kreuzberg — The Venue

The venue for 2026 is Festsaal Kreuzberg at Am Flutgraben 2 — a 1,500 m² event hall in a 19th-century brick building, located directly on the Landwehr Canal between Kreuzberg and Treptow. The hall, normally used as a concert and club venue (with a stage, bar, and VIP areas), will be completely transformed into a market for the Japanmarkt: a central stage, exhibitor stands around the hall, and a food court in the foyer.

  • Where: Festsaal Kreuzberg, Am Flutgraben 2, 12435 Berlin
  • District: Treptow-Köpenick, district Alt-Treptow (on the border with Kreuzberg)
  • 2026: Summer Edition — July 5, 2026, 12:00 PM–7:00 PM
  • 23rd Edition (counting winter and summer editions together)
  • 60+ Exhibitors: Design, fashion, jewelry, kimonos, matcha, ceramics
