When the Blue Light Moves into the City Center
The Iserlohn Blue Light Mile is one of the most popular events in the calendar of the largest city in the Märkischer Kreis district. Instead of in the fire station's backyard, rescue services, fire departments, police, and aid organizations present themselves right in the middle of the pedestrian zone — tangible, approachable, and explorable.
Date and Route 2026
Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Blue Light Mile stretches along a main axis through Iserlohn's city center:
Poth → Fritz-Kühn-Platz → Alter Rathausplatz → Unnaer Platz → Wermingser- und Wasserstraße → Schillerplatz.
A total of about 1.5 kilometers of stage for emergency vehicles, stands, and demonstrations.
Over 30 Participating Organizations
Represented are, among others:
- Feuerwehr Iserlohn — Professional fire department and volunteer fire departments of the city
- Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK) Iserlohn
- DLRG — German Life Saving Association
- Technisches Hilfswerk (THW)
- Polizei Iserlohn
- Malteser, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, ASB
- Special units of the rescue dog squad, emergency pastoral care, etc.
Hands-on Activities for All Age Groups
What makes the Blue Light Mile special: here, you don't just watch, you touch and participate:
- Try sitting on a police motorcycle
- Cave rescue simulation — crawling through a recreated narrow passage
- Blood donation drive with the DRK
- Resuscitation training — learning CPR on training dummies
- Vehicle rescue demonstrations — freeing trapped persons from a training vehicle
- Rope rescue from the turntable ladder basket (for children with a guardian)
- Children's entertainment with small practice hoses, traffic education, etc.
Iserlohn's Family Highlight
The Blue Light Mile is a day for the whole family — children, in particular, are fascinated by the large vehicles, the blue lights, and the uniforms. At the same time, the day conveys the work of the helpers, recruits for the volunteer fire department and aid services, and builds trust in the city's security structures.
Iserlohn
Iserlohn, with around 93,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Märkischer Kreis district and an important central town in the southern Sauerland region. The city center classically extends between Poth and Schillerplatz — a pedestrian-friendly axis that works ideally for the Blue Light Mile.
