Summer market and town festival in the historic centre of Waging am See
On a Saturday evening at the end of July, the historic cobblestones of the market square of Waging am See fill with beer tables, market stalls, and a stage. The Waginger Marktfest is a classic town festival organised by the association »Waging Bewegt« in cooperation with the local restaurateurs and associations – a festival that perfectly captures the character of the market town of Waging on Waginger See in the Upper Bavarian Chiemgau Lake Region.
The stage on the market square typically features a Bavarian folk or brass music ensemble and a modern cover band. The Waginger Trachtenkapelle or the Trachtler from the D'Walchnstoaner traditional costume association regularly perform. The musical programme ranges from hearty brass music in the early evening to live acts with rock, pop, and Bavarian party music late into the night.
The culinary catering is provided by the local Waging inns and restaurants directly on site: Bratwurst, Hendl (roast chicken), Steckerlfisch (fish on a stick) from Waginger See, Kässpatzen (cheese noodles), Brezn (pretzels), fries, and sweet treats are complemented by draught beer from surrounding breweries (Waginger Sailerbräu, Stein-Bräu Berchtesgaden). Non-alcoholic drinks, coffee, cocktails, and wine are also available.
The Marktfest is explicitly designed as a family festival. For children, there is a children's programme with a carousel, face painting, balloons, and small activities. Admission is free, and the central location on the market square makes the festival easily accessible for older guests and families with prams.
Waging am See, a trapezoidal market town on the northern shore of Waginger See, belongs to the district of Traunstein in the administrative region of Upper Bavaria. The region is known as Rupertiwinkel and is considered one of the warmest bathing areas in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Waginger See is Bavaria's warmest lake and a popular summer destination – the Marktfest falls during the peak season and is therefore also a popular event for holidaymakers. The town festival in Tittmoning takes place annually on the same date, allowing visitors to experience both festivities over a weekend.
The 2026 edition of the Waginger Marktfest will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The festival begins on the market square at 6 PM and continues late into the evening.
The stage on the market square will feature a traditional Bavarian brass band and a modern cover band. The Waginger Wirte (local restaurateurs) and some additional food stalls will provide guests with Bratwurst, Hendl, Steckerlfisch, fries, Brezn, and sweet treats. The drinks menu includes draught beer from regional breweries, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages.
For the younger visitors, there is a varied children's programme: face painting, balloons, a small carousel, and interactive activities. Admission to the entire festival grounds is free.
A special feature of this date: The town festival in the neighbouring town of Tittmoning takes place on the same day, allowing visitors to spend the entire weekend with two festivals in the Rupertiwinkel region.
Free admission. Food and drinks at catering prices: Beer (Mass) approx. €9.50, half Hendl €13, Steckerlfisch €12, Bratwurst roll €4.50, cocktail €8-10. Payment in cash; card payment also possible at some stalls.
By car via the A8 (Munich–Salzburg), exit Traunstein/Siegsdorf, then take the B304 to Waging am See. Parking is available in the town centre (paid parking), at the festival grounds, and at the lido. By train: Traunstein station (Munich–Salzburg line), then continue by bus (line 9404 RVO) to Waging.
Admission to the Marktfest is free. Food and drinks are offered at standard catering prices.
The Marktfest takes place outdoors in all weather. In case of heavy rain, festivities will move indoors to the Waginger inns. Current information can be found in the programme of the market community of Waging.
