Palatinate specialties and Alsatian delicacies at Landau's Rathausplatz
The Southern Palatinate and neighboring Alsace have been closely connected gastronomically for centuries. The German-French Farmers' Market in Landau in der Pfalz celebrates precisely this bond. Producers and direct marketers from the entire Palatinate, as well as French exhibitors from nearby Alsace, gather in the central Rathausplatz to offer regional products and specialties. The mix of Palatinate Saumagen, young white wine, Crémant d'Alsace, Flammkuchen, fresh cheese, and sweet pastries makes the market a journey for the senses.
Palatinate vintners pour the first spring wines, bakers offer wood-fired bread, and beekeepers present honey from the Palatinate Forest. On the French side, you'll find foie gras, charcuterie, cheese from the Vosges, macarons from Strasbourg, and champagne. Handmade jams, mustards, pestos, and regional liqueurs also have their place. The atmosphere is relaxed, and personal conversations with the producers are part of the concept.
In parallel with the market, the shops in Landau's city center open their doors from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The city combines a culinary market day with shopping experiences in boutiques, cafés, and restaurants. The day is a popular start to spring and is also suitable as a day trip for visitors from Alsace, Saarland, or Karlsruhe.
With the arrival of spring, Landau's city center unfolds in all its beauty: blooming magnolias, outdoor dining in the squares, and the historic ambiance around the Rathausplatz make the farmers' market a charming experience.
The 2026 edition of the German-French Farmers' Market will take place on March 29, 2026. The Rathausplatz will become a culinary stage for regional products from Germany and France. The combination with the Sunday shopping event makes the day a popular family outing.
