Five days of Upper Bavarian Burschenfest at Strohhoferfeld – with Martina Schwarzmann and cover band Tetrapack
The Fridolfinger Burschenfest is one of the classic Burschenfeste of Upper Bavaria – those folk festivals organized by Burschenvereine, i.e., the bachelor associations that function as an important pillar of club culture in many Upper and Old Bavarian villages. In Fridolfing, the Burschen- und Arbeiterverein Fridolfing-Pietling has been organizing the festival for generations, giving it a distinctive character between village tradition and modern festival culture.
The program follows a multi-day dramaturgy, dedicating each day to its own theme. Wednesday is the "Day of Tradespeople and Good Neighborliness" with barrel tapping and the Fridolfing brass band. Thursday (Ascension Day / Father's Day) features tractor pulling competitions and a proper after-party. Friday is the Wine and Wheat Beer Evening with the band d'Jung-Ottinger. Saturday is the highlight with a performance by Bavarian cabaret artist Martina Schwarzmann. Sunday concludes the festival with the cover band Tetrapack.
Saturday evening with Martina Schwarzmann is a special highlight of the festival. The cabaret artist and singer, born in Lower Bavaria, is among the top of the Bavarian comedy scene and rarely performs in such a village atmosphere. Her laconic, witty programs about Bavarian rural life perfectly capture the language and spirit of the Burschenfest audience. Tickets are available in advance from Raiffeisen Waren Fridolfing and Marx Reisen.
Fridolfing is a market town with around 4,000 inhabitants in the district of Traunstein in Upper Bavaria (state of Bavaria) – on the border with Berchtesgadener Land and the Austrian border. The municipality is located in the Rupertiwinkel, a region of particular cultural landscape in the pre-Alpine area near Salzburg, with compact farming villages, Rococo churches, and a well-maintained Burschenfest culture. Traditional customs – Maibaum, traditional costumes, Burschen pranks – are particularly alive in Fridolfing.
The venue is the festival tent at Strohhoferfeld on the outskirts of the town. The tent seats around 1,500 people, plus a festival garden, carousels, a shooting gallery, and candy stalls. It opens daily in the late afternoon, and on Sundays and public holidays, it opens for the early morning pint (Frühschoppen).
