Three electronic summer nights in the historic Maste-Barendorf brass factory — "3x schwarzer Kater"
The ABRAKADABRA Elektro Open Air in Iserlohn is one of the most extraordinary format events in the Sauerland region — not a single festival weekend, but a three-part summer series on three Saturdays in July and August. Subtitle: "3x schwarzer Kater" (3x Black Cat) — an allusion to the magical, dark atmosphere of the electronic nights. Venue: the historic Maste-Barendorf industrial site.
The Maste-Barendorf at Baarstraße 220-226 is a unique industrial heritage site: a brass factory from the 1820s, now a cultural center with artist studios, a sculpture garden, and event spaces. The Maste family had been active in Iserlohn since 1815 — the site is now a listed monument and part of the "Iserlohn Museums". The raw steel industrial aesthetic with high factory halls, chimneys, and old machinery remnants lends the ABRAKADABRA nights their special magical atmosphere — comparable to Berlin locations like the Berghain Power Plant, but on a much more intimate scale.
Each edition stands on its own, with its own lineup. Those who attend all three will experience a whole summer of electronic music at Maste-Barendorf.
Around 2500 people per edition — a deliberately manageable size that guarantees an intimate atmosphere. It's not about stadium sounds, but about close contact between the DJ, sound system, and audience. The program includes:
Iserlohn is located in the Märkisches Sauerland, in the Märkischer Kreis. The town is better known for industrial history and hiking — but it's precisely these contrasts that make ABRAKADABRA special. An electronic series in a brass factory in the Sauerland — you won't find that just anywhere. The city of Iserlohn, with this series, is promoting the diversification of its cultural offerings beyond traditional classical concerts and folk festivals (Volksfeste).
