International Yoga and World Music Festival on the Upper Palatinate Lake
The Yoga Sound Sea Festival takes place annually on Steinberger See — an artificial lake, formerly used for lignite mining, in the Upper Palatinate Lake District. It is now one of the largest lakes in Bavaria and is also known as the "Upper Palatinate Sea." The festival grounds on the west bank (Am Steinberger See 6, 92449 Steinberg am See) offer a spectacular natural backdrop with a beach atmosphere — unusual for the Upper Palatinate and ideal for a yoga festival.
The program includes over 125 workshops, spread across ten thematic event tents. The spectrum ranges from Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Inside Flow, to Sound Healing, breathwork, Tantra workshops, dance, and movement therapy. Internationally renowned yoga teachers from Germany, India, France, Great Britain, and Spain are listed annually among the workshop leaders.
Music forms the second focus. Over the four festival days, concerts and Kirtans are performed daily — world music, Indian Bhakti tradition, electronic meditation music, acoustic sets, and trance concerts. Two stage areas offer an almost continuous musical program from morning till night.
Water is a programmatic element of the festival. Steinberger See offers opportunities for SUP Yoga (Stand-up Paddle Yoga on the water), swimming sessions, water meditations, and sunrise yoga on the beach. 80,000 m² of open-air grounds directly by the lake, plus 3,000 m² of covered areas under the ten event tents, form a cohesive festival area.
The festival clearly positions itself in the premium segment: tickets start at €339 (Early Bird 4-day ticket, more expensive later). The target audience is serious yoga practitioners and wellness travelers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and beyond. The festival is actively supported by the administrative community of Wackersdorf / Steinberg and the Oberpfälzer Seenland — it is one of the most significant events in the region.
The 2026 edition of the Yoga Sound Sea Festival continues in the vein of previous years: a premium yoga festival with international aspirations, directly on the Upper Palatinate Lake. Over 125 workshops are spread across ten thematic tents — Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Inside Flow, breathwork, Tantra, Sound Healing, dance, mantra workshops, and much more.
The musical program includes concerts and Kirtans throughout all four festival days, featuring internationally recognized artists from the yoga and world music scene. Specific workshop and artist confirmations will be published on the festival website.
