The city's oldest folk festival, summer's opening in the Stadtpark
With its 72nd edition in May 2026, the Teublitz Volksfest underscores its special position in the Upper Palatinate festival calendar: it is the oldest and at the same time the first folk festival of the year in the city. The organizer is the City of Teublitz in the district of Schwandorf, which brings together showmen, festival hosts, and breweries every spring.
Unlike many Bavarian folk festivals, the Teublitz Volksfest is not held on a dusty festival meadow, but directly in the Stadtpark – in the middle of the city, under old trees. The festival grounds are within walking distance of the city center; the festival tent with its wooden floor and beer garden forms the heart, surrounded by amusement rides and stalls lining the park paths. This location – short and cozy – is what many regular visitors particularly appreciate about the Teublitz Volksfest.
The folk festival follows a fixed schedule: Opening with a concert at the market square, procession to the tent, beer tapping by the mayor, followed by five days of festival operations with music, showman attractions, and delicacies. Several themed events are at the center:
With around 11,000 inhabitants, Teublitz is not a big city – and the folk festival reflects this. There is no spectacle with ten major amusement rides, but a manageable, honestly Upper Palatinate-run festival with Bavarian delicacies, festival beer on tap, and a festival tent where you can actually see your neighbors on the first evening. It is precisely this format – "Celebrating still has tradition here!" as the official slogan says – that has kept the festival alive since the 1950s and makes it a firm fixture of the May weekend around Ascension Day.
With the 72nd edition, the city of Teublitz confirms the fixed date in mid-May for 2026 as well. The Volksfest begins on Wednesday, May 13th, with an opening concert at the market square and the procession to the festival tent in the Stadtpark, followed by the traditional beer tapping.
Ascension Day on Thursday, May 14th, is the family day par excellence in the Catholic-Upper Palatinate region and, based on experience, ensures the largest visitor numbers. Friday is designated as Family Day with reduced prices for amusement rides, and Saturday afternoon features the Senior Citizens' Afternoon. The Volksfest concludes on Sunday, May 17th, with a festive closing.
In the period before the festival, the City of Teublitz advertises for showmen and showwomen through public tenders – the final allocation of the festival grounds is usually confirmed a few weeks before the opening date.
Detailed daily program and festival host allocation will be published shortly before the start on teublitz.de.
