The annual district festival on Schmöckwitz Island – Saturday, September 5, 2026, 2 PM–11 PM, at the Inselschule
Schmöckwitz is one of Berlin's most unusual districts: a peninsula in the Treptow-Köpenick borough, far south of the city, surrounded by Zeuthener See, Langer See, and Großer Müggelsee. The historic village center is located on its own small island, connected to the mainland by bridges. The climate, the waterside location, and the rural architecture are more reminiscent of Brandenburg than the typical Berlin cityscape – and it is precisely there, at the Inselschule, that the Inselfest takes place every year.
The local association Schmöckwitz e.V. – one of Berlin's oldest and most active local associations – has been organizing the festival for years and uses it as an annual community celebration for Schmöckwitz residents and neighbors from Grünau, Karolinenhof, and all of Köpenick. The format deliberately remains classic: market stalls in the schoolyard, a small stage with live music, a children's area with games and crafts, catering from the association's activities and local vendors.
The festival is explicitly designed to be intergenerational: children come for carousels, a games mile, and face painting, families for lunch and the afternoon program, seniors for coffee and cake at the school entrance, and young Schmöckwitz residents for the evening stage music (which runs until 11 PM in 2026). The Inselschule itself opens individual rooms for exhibitions, children's activities, and association life.
In 2025, the Inselfest coincided with Schmöckwitz's 650th anniversary and was celebrated on July 19 as a major "650 Years of Schmöckwitz" edition. In 2026, the festival returns to the classic, smaller district format – on September 5, with the usual rhythm and scope.
The 2026 edition returns to the classic Inselfest format after the "650 Years" special edition in 2025. The area in front of the Inselschule will be the main entrance, and the schoolyard will become the market area. A small stage in the courtyard will feature a mixed program of Berlin bands, dance groups, and interactive acts in the afternoon and evening. Catering from the association's activities and local vendors, a children's area with games and carousels, and market stalls with crafts, food, and information about local associations.
Free admission. Market stalls, food, and drinks payable directly at the stand. Coffee and cake often by donation via the local association – proceeds benefit Schmöckwitz's community life.
