Three days of brewery festival in the monastery town — from specialist meeting to family day
Alpirsbach in the Middle Black Forest is closely associated with two traditions: the Benedictine monastery from the 11th century and the Klosterbräu brewery, founded in 1880, which is now one of the best-known private breweries in Southern Germany. The Hopfenfest combines both traditions — for three days in mid-July, the brewery courtyard and monastery square become a cohesive festival area in the heart of the historic monastery town.
The festival evening is aimed at beer aficionados. The festival grounds open at 5:30 PM, and the program starts at 8:00 PM. On the brewery courtyard, d'SchwobaBRASSer will play, and on the monastery square, the band NoWay!. Those who arrive within the first hour after the ticket office opens will receive free beer — a traditional start to the festival days.
Saturday is the main festival day. Catering begins at 2:00 PM. The traditional keg tapping ceremony at 6:00 PM is the highlight — Brewery boss Carl Glauner and junior boss Moritz Glauner will personally conduct the ceremony. Afterwards, the party night runs from 5:30 PM to midnight: on the brewery courtyard, the Tannauer Musikkapelle and Viehweid 6, and on the monastery square, the party band Crazy Room. Again, free beer in the first hour.
Sunday is family day — and admission is free. Starts at 10:30 AM. The program includes: Frühschoppen with coffee and cake, activities for children (organized by local clubs), performances by music associations from the region. Play areas and hands-on stations ensure a program for all generations until the afternoon.
Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu was founded in 1880 and has remained family-run to this day. It brews Pils, Spezial, and several wheat beers in Alpirsbach; its most famous product is the “Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu Spezial". The brewery offers tours year-round and is a cornerstone of regional Black Forest tourism.
The Hopfenfest 2026 runs from Friday, July 17th, to Sunday, July 19th, in Alpirsbach's town center — on the brewery courtyard around Klosterbräu and the adjacent monastery square. Each day has its own character and musical program.
The keg tapping ceremony on Saturday at 6:00 PM by the brewery management is the ceremonial highlight — a tradition that has opened the Hopfenfest in the monastery town for years.
Friday and Saturday: Admission approx. €5–€10 per day, at the box office or online at alpirsbacher.de/events/. Sunday: Free admission. Food and drinks at usual festival prices — Alpirsbacher draft beer, regional specialties, vegetarian options.
Alpirsbach is located in the Freudenstadt district in the Middle Black Forest. Accessible via the B 462 from Freudenstadt or Schramberg. Train: Alpirsbach station on the Hausach–Freudenstadt line. It's a 5-minute walk from the station to the monastery square.
Friday (Specialist Meeting) and Saturday (Party Night): Admission with ticket (approx. €5–€10). Sunday (Family Day): Free admission. Tickets available at alpirsbacher.de and at the box office.
On the festival grounds, Alpirsbacher Pils, Weizen, and brewery specialties will be served. Black Forest dishes, steaks, vegetarian options, coffee, and cake on Sunday.
